FIRST STEPS FOR GETTING RID OF WATER DAMAGEWhen an area in the home becomes flooded with water for one reason or another, it can cause mold and water damage if the proper measures are not taken within a reasonable amount of time. There are many things that a person can do to prevent having to do extensive water damage repairs. Tackling the situation as soon as possible after it has started ensures that the damage will not lead to mold so bad as to require a mold remediation team. Getting Rid of the Water The first thing that you will need to do is to get rid of any standing water that remains inside the house. If you can reduce the amount of water as soon as possible, this will help to make sure that a lot of extra water extraction and damage restoration does not need to be done. You can empty the water by using a water pump. This will allow you to empty the water from inside the house. If you do not have access to a pump, you can call your local fire department for assistance with water damage extraction and restoration. They are sure to have the equipment that is needed to extract the water from the home. Assessing the Damage Once you have extracted all of the standing water from inside the home, then you can begin to determine what needs to be fixed. Sometimes when the water was only left standing for a short period of time, you can get away with not need to repair anything at all. However, there are times when you will be left with sticks and bricks damage caused by water because the water was not extracted within enough time. You should closely examine the areas of the house that were affected by the water to see if there are any negative affects caused by the water. If you happen to notice areas that received damage, these areas will need to be replaced. Repair the damages as quickly as possible in order to prevent additional damages from occurring as a result. |
