FIRST STEPS FOR MAKING YOUR HOUSE LIVABLE AFTER A HOUSE FIRE

There is a great amount of water required to put out a house fire.

If the fire department is indeed able to quench the fire in enough time to save at least part of the home, undoubtedly there will be water damage to the remaining part of the house because of the amount of water the house was exposed to.

Once you begin to re-build your house and your life, it will be necessary to do fire and water damage restoration to make the house livable.

Repairing Damage to the Structure

After the fire has been put out there will be a large amount of wood water damage. Much of the other parts of the house, for example the roof, will have burned away. It is important that water damage restoration be conducted in order to prevent dry rot of the remaining wood.

This will also help to prevent any mold caused by water damage. Replace any wood that received water damage. If there was any hardwood floor water damage, the wood floor water damage will need to be replaced as well.

Who Should Do the Repairs?

You basically have two choices when it comes to doing the repairs to your home. You can choose to purchase all the necessary materials and do the work yourself. Or, you can hire water damage techs to repair the parts of the home that received water damage.

These techs should specialize in water damage restoration services. The techs might also have experience in servicing home air and water filters. If they do not, you will have to do this service on your own our hire another service professional to do this work.

If you choose to do the repairs yourself, you will need to take inventory of everything that needs to be replaced. Some of these areas will be the wood frames to the house, the floors, sheetrock, air and water filters, carpet, and kitchen and bathroom counters.
